Welcome to the 2021 WV GIS Virtual Conference

As the largest gathering of geospatial professionals in West Virginia, the 2021 WV GIS Virtual Conference will bring together professionals from across our wild and wonderful state to share their knowledge and experience. This two-day meeting will provide learning opportunities for both members and non-members interested in best practices in mapping technologies, natural resource management, Lidar, and economic development.

Meet Our Workshop Presenter: ArcGIS Pro

Aaron Maxwell

Aaron Maxwell is currently an Assistant Professor of Geography in the Department of Geology and Geography at West Virginia University. He teaches geospatial science courses for both undergraduate and graduate students. He is also the director of West Virginia View, a consortium of public, private, and non-profit remote sensing organizations in West Virginia, and a faculty director of the West Virginia GIS Technical Center. Prior to coming to West Virginia University, he was an Assistant Professor at Alderson Broaddus University where he taught a wide variety of courses related to GIS/Remote Sensing, Environmental Science, and Geology. Prior to teaching, he worked as a Remote Sensing Analyst at the Natural Resource Analysis Center (NRAC) at West Virginia University. The primary objectives of his work are to investigate computational methods to extract useful information from geospatial data to make informed decisions and to train students to be effective and thoughtful geospatial scientists and professionals.

Drew Fioranelli, GISP is a career GIS professional and thought leader supporting local government geospatial efforts for over 15 years. In his current role as a Business Development Manager for Michael Baker International’s public safety team, DATAMARK, Drew provides solutions and support for GIS and public safety professionals transitioning to Next Generation 9-1-1. He previously served as the GIS Director for Fauquier County, VA, supporting geospatial efforts within the county and implementing emerging geospatial technologies to better serve the community. He is currently in his 3 year serving as the President of the Geospatial Information & Technology Association (GITA), a global non-profit whose mission is to educate, connect, and advocate for geospatial professionals.
