Lightning Talk Presentation Information

Thank you again for presenting at the IAMSE 2025 Virtual Forum! This page will go over what is expected, what you should expect, and answering our most commonly asked questions. If you have a question that is not answered by this page, please reach out to support@iamse.org

Schedule Information

The full Lightning Talk presentation schedule has been made available here. Additionally, each presentation has the date and time listed with their abstract. To view the abstracts for each category, please click them below.

Presentations are scheduled in one of the six slots:

  • Wednesday, October 22, 12:00 - 1:00 PM EDT
  • Wednesday, October 22, 1:30 - 2:30 PM EDT
  • Thursday, October 23, 9:00 - 10:00 AM EDT
  • Thursday, October 23, 12:00 - 1:00 PM EDT
  • Friday, October 24, 10:15 - 11:15 AM EDT
  • Friday, October 24, 12:00 - 1:00 PM EDT

Each day will have 9 blocks split between two time slots. Each block will mostly contain presentations from the same category.

The week of October 13, our presenters will receive a Google Calendar invitation from IAMSE. This invitation will contain the schedule for your block, your session moderator, and the Zoom connection information. We recommend reading the abstracts for the other presentations in your block so you are familiar with the work prior to presentation. Each presenter from your block, your moderator, and IAMSE admin will also be listed on the calendar invitation. We ask that you do not share the calendar invitation with anyone.

We ask that on the day of your presentation that you please enter the room through the Zoom link in your calendar invitation. If you enter through the Event Hub, you may be placed in a waiting room.

Presentation Information

As you may know, a Lightning Talk is scheduled as a 7-minute presentation with 7-minutes for Q&A. Outside of these time constraints, we have no set format for the Lightning Talk presentations. We recommend that our presenters use PowerPoint or Google Slides.

If you would like for us to have a back-up of your presentation slides on file in case there is an issue with connection, please submit your presentation slides to this form. Be sure to name your presentation in this way: "LastName_DayPresenting_BlockNumber".

Note, if a presentation in your block has canceled, their presentation spot will remain open. This way, we keep to our schedule and attendees don't miss a session that has already been presented. If you are suddenly unable to present your abstract, please notify support@iamse.org as soon as you are able.

One issue that we have noticed in virtual presentations that we would like to address - please do not present while you are driving a vehicle. This is very dangerous, both for you and others on the road. If you must present from your vehicle, please be parked.

Absolutely! These are a few tips from our Virtual Forum Committee as well as past presenters:

  • Use a good microphone for the best audio quality.
  • Plan your pacing and stick to it.
  • Look at your camera, not your screen.
  • Your background and problem addressed are not the main points.
  • Purposefully use visuals that support your points.
  • Always include a summary with take-home points.
  • Make sure you do not have any distractions in the background of your video. If you are unable to control your background, try using Zoom's background blur feature.
  • Make sure you have the most up-to-date version of Zoom or any platform you intend to use during your presentation.
  • If you are using PowerPoint or Google Slides, make sure that your slides are accessible to your audience. One easy way to make your slides more accessible is to ensure your font is no smaller than 24pt and that you use a Sans Serif font, such as Calibri, Aria, or Verdana.
